Do I need to add anything to your food?

Fish 4 Dogs offer complete foods that are totally nutritionally balanced. The ingredients that we use are of superior quality ensuring maximum benefit. A healthy dog should not require any supplementation of the diet whatsoever

How much food should I give?

There are comprehensive feeding instructions on the packaging. Please see our Feeding Guide. Do take into consideration your dog's age and your dog's life style when calculating the feeding amount.

What ingredients are in your food?

Please take a look at the Nutritional Analysis. Nutritional information is also on the individual page for each product.

What is the difference between your Adult Diet and your Working Dog Diet?

These diets have the same nutritional analysis, however 'Working Dog' ensures that the product becomes VAT free. You do not have to be VAT registered to qualify for this product.

The protein level is high, will this make my dog hyperactive?

It is a common misconception that high protein causes dogs to “go hyper”. Over-activity in dogs is most likely to be due to either a rush of energy or from a reaction to ingredients such as artificial colours or flavours. The rush of energy is usually as a result of a diet that has a high glycaemic index (sugar) – which is more likely to be a response to the carbohydrate content.

What is the calorific value of your Complete Food?

Please take a look at the Nutritional Analysis. Nutritional information is also on the individual page for each product.

How does your food compare to other premium foods?

If you look at the ingredients of other so called fish diets, you will notice that the amount of actual fish included is negligible. In our Dog Food the fish content is over 55% and our Cat Food is over 70%, more than any other diets available on the market. We use fish meat which includes the skin, which holds the best nutrients and omega oils. We do not use ground down bone, which by the time it is processed, has very little goodness at all.

Can I feed your Adult Diet to my pregnant bitch?

Yes, as the Fish4Dogs range of complete foods are of such high quality they are ideal to feed to a pregnant bitch. All the essential vitamins and minerals are included. An adjustment of feeding quantities may be required towards the end of the pregnancy depending on the breed.

Are there any salt or garlic enhancers added to the diet to improve palatability?

No there are none added or used. We don’t need to use these false enhancers. The fish itself ensures fabulous palatability! We rarely find dogs that won’t eat the diet. The salt content of the diet is naturally occurring in the fish.

I have an old dog, is your food appropriate with a 26% protein level?

The protein in the complete food is fish. Fish is known to be one of the most digestible protein sources available, better than red meat proteins. The better the quality of the protein, the more digestible it will be for the animal. The more digestible it is, the easier it is on the animal’s system. However, if you dog has been diagnosed with renal problems then a specific low protein diet may be more appropriate.

Does Fish4Cats include all the extra essential vitamins, minerals and taurine required by cats?

Yes, you will be able to feed this Complete Food to your cats without having to add any tinned food or extra vitamins etc. The Complete Food is Complete!  Please take a look at the Nutritional Analysis.

Potato has a high starch/sugar content. Is this an issue?

The sugar content of potatoes is very slightly higher than rice, but neither are high. During the cooking process the starch, be it potato or rice, is “gelatinised” which enables it to be digested. There is absolutely nothing wrong with sugar in the diet so long as it is at a low level. Please take a look at the Nutritional Analysis.

Treats FAQ

What is in your treats?

How many treats can I give each day?

What is the calorific value of your treats?

Why are Sea Biscuits different in colour sometimes?

Why are Sea Jerky Treats particularly good for plaque removal?

What is in your treats?

Sea Jerky contains100% Fish and Sea Biscuits contains 95% Fish and 5% Rice.  They are all natural and have no wheat or gluten, no artifical additives, no preservatives or colourings. Please take a look at the Nutritional Analysis. Nutritional information is also on the individual page for each product.

How many treats can I give each day?

The amount of treats will very much depend on the size, age and life style of your dog. A bigger dog will perhaps easily digest 5 treats a day without any great problems on the waistline, whilst you may find that 3 treats a day is sufficient for smaller dog. This is based on the Square size of Sea Jerky & Sea Biscuit or in the Roll format. See link -  Feeding Guidelines

What is the calorific value of your treats?

Please take a look at the Nutritional Analysis

Why are Sea Biscuits different in colour sometimes?

The Biscuits will vary (sometimes lighter or darker) when they are put through the baking process. This will depend upon the moisture content of each batch of fish which is used. As this is a natural product, no two batches will ever be the same in colour.

Why are Sea Jerky Treats particularly good for plaque removal?

The Jerky is the fish skin and therefore contains the scales of the fish. These scales act as exfoliators and often assist in the reduction of plaque.

My dog is on a weight reduction diet, are your treats suitable?

My dog is overweight.

It is important to firstly look at your dog's daily intake of food & drink. We would recommend Fish Complete as this is a diet that is low in saturated fat, high in protein and medium carbohydrate. A 5% reduction in the daily intake of food is likely to achieve 10% weight reduction over 9 months. Other factors to consider include life style - how much exercise your dog gets, life stage and general body metabolism. Do please contact careline@fish4dogs.com for specific advice.

The naturally occurring Omega fish oils play an important role in maintaining good skin and coat health.  You may find our products are well suited to your dog.
